Program Overview
The Communications and Development department works hand in hand with program staff across the organization to raise awareness for our programs and services, liaise with stakeholders, attract clients and raise funds to deliver our services.
As a Development Associate, you will contribute to fundraising initiatives by assisting in campaign planning, conducting donor research, managing databases, drafting communications, and participating in various department activities.
We're looking for someone who will:
- Support timely and accurate processing and acknowledgement of donations
- Conduct research on and identify potential donors, sponsors, grants and other funding opportunities that align with agency needs
- Gather and compile information through internet searches, conversations with external stakeholders and staff agencywide to utilize for grants and proposals
- Assist in writing proposals, reports, invoices, thank you letters and other communication materials for stewarding donors and funders
- Maintain donor data and research best practices for maximizing data integrity and using it to inform fundraising strategies
- Analyze donor data, support the tracking and reporting of fundraising progress and prepare reports for internal and external use
- Assist in creating communication materials for internal use
- Assist in the planning and execution of agency events
- Conduct outreach activities to support department targets
- Stay informed about fundraising best practices, industry trends and new fundraising tools or technologies
- Attend team and All-Staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field
- 1 to 2 years of related experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving abilities
- Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency (ie. SalesForce)
- Sales and marketing skills to promote JVS Toronto services and generate revenue
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate materials effectively
- Technical proficiency and familiarity with agency software and systems, including Raiser's Edge
