ISL's Water and Environment Team provides expert environmental assessment, project permitting, construction monitoring and support for a wide variety of municipal, transportation, structural and land development projects within our local communities.

Your cover letter must demonstrate:

Your resume should show us:


  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental science, biology, or a related field, with five or more years of experience.
  • Proven experience in navigating a typical civil engineering based regulatory environment, with emphasis on ATEC requirements, Alberta Water Act and Public Lands as well as Federal requirements.
  • A track record of successfully managing internal projects, ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Credentials or eligibility for professional registration (e.g., P.Ag., P. Biol., etc).
  • Field experience related to biophysical assessments such as vegetation, wetlands, fisheries and/or wildlife assessments.
  • Reporting experience, particularly within a regulatory environment.

Bonus points for:


  • Prior experience working directly with Alberta Transportation or other provincial departments on environmental approvals.
  • Experience with GIS or other spatial analysis tools that aid in environmental planning and decisionmaking.
  • A network of contacts within regulatory bodies and/or environmental consultancies.
A Little More About the Role


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with our Lead of Environmental Services in Calgary to lead and manage environmental services, making sure they fit with Project needs from inside and outside sources, as well as finding opportunities for expansion, both for team and possible projects.
  • Secure environmental regulatory approvals for the diverse range of ISL projects, particularly focused on our Edmonton and other northern Offices.
  • Recognize potential regulatory challenges and devise strategies to navigate them.
  • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal and external clients.
  • Working with the Calgary team, coordinate resources and teams, ensuring efficient execution of projects.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, ensuring all projects remain compliant.
  • Promote interdepartmental collaboration, ensuring seamless execution and project delivery.
  • Conducting biophysical field work, such as: wildlife habitat assessments, fish salvages, vegetation assessments, wetland valuations, construction monitoring, etc.
  • Assisting with the preparation of, review and authoring of technical reports.
  • Formulate proposals, detailing project scope, schedule, and fees.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, answering a wide range of hydrogeological and environmental questions.
  • Travel as required for field programs (Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan) and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
