Background & Purpose of the Job


The Electrical & Controls Supervisor role is critical to the development of our factories to World Class, which means zero defects, zero waste, and zero losses.

The Electrical Supervisor role will focus on elimination of breakdowns and maintenance of basic conditions through use of Focused Improvement and Quality improvement methods including implementation of countermeasures that simplify processes, utilize predictive / preventative maintenance effectively and introduce increased automation and controls.


Working directly with the line crews, maintenance team, and cross-functional teams, the Controls & Electrical Supervisor also acts in support of technical training for maintenance team and provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures.

This role also has responsibility and support for preventative maintenance functions to improve reliability, efficiency, and cost.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

  • Coordinate and schedule plant power shutdowns for sub station and power distribution maintenance in coordination with Ontario Hydro. Knowledge of ESA standards (employment standards act), knowledge of ESA (Electrical Safety Association).
  • Conduct annual electrical safety audits, conduct departmental audits for compliance and food safety.
  • Train electricians on safety and arc flash with refreshers as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support, mentoring and training to electricians.
  • Support other departments, engineering projects and other plant initiatives as needed.
  • Continuously improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance
  • Work closely with all production leadership maximizing use of line downtime and coordination of scheduling electricians for all AM/PM activities
  • Coordinate electrical resources to work closely with Safety, Operations, Quality, Early Equipment Management (including innovation and line modifications and additions), and Focus Improvement to ensure timely delivery of all critical actions based on current losses
  • Maintain a computer base system that tracks all assets, PM schedules, breakdowns, etc.
  • Develop and update AM and PM standards related to electrical components and computer systems
  • Develop Maintenance Procedures (MPs)
  • Ensure that all breakdowns have a breakdown analysis (EWO) completed by the packaging electricians with timely followup
  • Manage budgets within the departmental requirements
  • Serve on a Safety, Health, & Environment (SHE) team as assigned.
  • Design PLC logic for RS Logix
  • Troubleshooting RS Logix, Panelview series HMI, Powerflex Drives
  • Troubleshooting legacy installations
  • Manage Industrial networks
  • Develop automation standards / standardize installation parts
  • Train technical staff in new technologies
  • Act as site liaison to IT department
  • Lead site Cyber Security

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Technical Trades License
  • Licensed electrician in 309 or 442 and 13 years general Canadian industrial manufacturing experience in a food environment.
  • Knowledge of UL and CSA requirements as well as indepth knowledge of the Regulation (Green Book
  • Ability to work in a multifunctional team environment
  • Excellent personal communication skills
  • Flexibility with schedule and hours
  • Familiarity with GMP/ISO/Audits is an asset
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)/World Class Manufacturing (WCM) experience is preferred; continuous improvement experience is also preferred.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is preferred.
  • Understand and design power distribution systems for the plants power needs, update and maintain plant electrical drawings, manuals, P&IDs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, coaching and organization skills. Strong written and oral communication skills.
