Position Summary:


  • Are you a registered Speech Language Pathologist looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Speech Language Pathologist department.
  • In accordance with established vision and values of the organization and in accordance with professional standards and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of B.C., the Speech-Language Pathologist. provides evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders to adult acute care inpatient/outpatient patients. The Speech-Language Pathologist may work directly with clients and/or with their caregivers or other persons who regularly interact with them for the purpose of creating environments that promote optimal communication/swallowing. The Speech-Language Pathologist contributes to the organization and the overall goals of the department/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, and education.

Dawson Creek & District Hospital Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. It has 31 Acute Care beds and 15 regional adult psychiatric beds. Dawson Creek is the Orthopaedic Trauma and Surgical centre for the Northeast Region of BC.

Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500. It provides primary service to a population of approximately 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region of 60,000. Qualifications:


  • Current registration as a Speech-Language Pathologist with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC
  • One year's clinical experience with adults in a hospital setting and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's license where required.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Assessment and Treatment: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments. Knowledge of communication and dysphagia standardized tests, measures, use of equipment and related techniques.
  • Teaching: Ability to teach and provide effective consultation to patients, caregivers, and other health care professionals.
  • Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, caregivers, members of the interprofessional care team, both verbally (oneonone and in groups) and in writing.
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problemsolve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problemsolving process demonstrating critical thinking and decisionmaking skills using a systems approach.
