Cyclist in Residence - Calgary, Canada - Youth en Route

Description

• Supporting teachers in a range of classes as they use bikes to deliver Alberta Curriculum outcomes including English Language Learners, special education, outdoor pursuits and physical education classes
• Under teacher and YER supervision, teach engaging, age and audience appropriate lessons in bike repair and maintenance, safety, wayfinding and cycling skill development or any area where teachers are looking for leadership/support
• Teach small groups of young adults, who have never been on a bike, to cycle independently Identify issues and make adjustments to the school's fleet of bikes including brakes, gears, components to ensure bikes are safe for student riders
• Fit students with helmets and on bikes and adaptive bikes, adjusting seats, handlebars, adaptive components to facilitate student success
• Store and organize bikes and equipment to make it easy for teachers to use without support Act as sweeper on group rides with tool kit to fix any issues that may arise.
• Create a visual presence for Youth en Route in schools, support students with wayfinding and personal bike repairs as time allows
• Share success stories and photos, within (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy) guidelines, to help tell the Youth en Route story
• Be the Cyclist in Residence supporting student learning in any way that support teachers and furthers Youth en Route's Mission
• Show students that bikes are fun, sustainable, empowering and often the most convenient way to get around
