Job Description:

Temporary Part Time (Multiple Positions Available)

Positions are available in the following areas: Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Surgery, Medicine,and Inpatient Mental Health.


If you are invited for an interview, we will ask you at that time to provide us with your top 3 preferences for assigned unit.

We however cannot guarantee you will be placed in one of your top 3 preferred areas.


Rate of pay:
$19.80/hour


Contract End Date:
March 31, 2025 (
or **3 months after you complete your nursing program - whichever comes first)


Shift:
dependent on the area assigned to.

ED, ICU, Inpatient Surgery, and Medicine require you to work 12 Hour Shifts - Days, Nights, Weekends or

Inpatient Mental Health require you to work 8 Hour Shifts - Days , , Evenings

Clinical Externs can be clinical learners in nursing, respiratory therapy and paramedic programs.

Externs are unregulated health care providers and will work as part of an interprofessional team under supervision of regulated health care providers.

This is a paid position as part of the Ontario Government's Enhanced Extern Program (EEP).


Qualifications:


  • Nursing Students in any year of study and enrolled in a CNO approved baccalaureate or diploma nursing program
  • Successful completion of a recent clinical placement in an acute care area preferred
  • Students who have successfully completed a recent clinical placement preferred
  • Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
  • Excellent clinical skills and competencies
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good attendance record

Duties:


  • Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the nursing professional assigned to them on the unit
  • Practices in a manner consistent with organizational policies, professional standards, while taking into account CNO guidance for unregulated care providers
  • Works with unit nurses to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties
  • Provides assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting, and ambulating as per the hospital policy.
  • Provides measures to ensure skin integrity and reduce pressure injuries.
  • Assists with comfort measures and patient safety by ensuring the environment is clean and tidy and free of hazards.
  • Requests assistance with assigned duties whenever in need
  • Demonstrates excellent problemsolving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Participates as an effective member of an interprofessional team
  • The successful external applicant is required to provide the applicable criminal record check, as requested by Human Resources, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation. Valid criminal record checks are in original format and dated with two months from date of conditional offer from CMH._
