  • Responsible for day to day food preparation including lunches and snacks according to the YWCA Hamilton's predetermined menu plan;
  • Prepares all foods in a timely fashion in order to follow classroom(s) schedule;
  • Responsible to change menu items as needed due to allergies, and dietary restrictions;
  • Adheres to monthly budget to accommodate the menu;
  • Ensuring the safe handling and storage of all food items;
  • Assists with the general care of children in the licensed child care center as required;
  • Ensures positive, professional communication with families on an ongoing basis, and responds promptly to all requests, queries and concerns;
  • Ensures compliance with YWCA policies and procedure and the Child Care and Early Years Act; Ensure compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act;
  • Participates in professional development including staff meetings, workshops and training;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works 30 hours work week.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma 18 years or older;
  • Diploma or certificate in food services is an asset;
  • Some professional training as a cook is an asset;
  • Experience preparing food, including preparing for children with allergies, and an awareness of religious and alternative dietary restrictions is an asset;
  • Experience in a licensed child care setting is an asset;
  • Current Safe Food Handling certificate or ability to obtain prior to start;
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Ability to bring a feminist, antiracist/antioppressive perspective to work;
  • Must provide a TB test, proof of Tetanus (within 10 years) and proof of MMR immunizations;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
