Position purpose:


Reporting to the Director, Centre for Research on French Canadian Culture, plans and supervises all archives service activities, including acquisition, conservation and dissemination of the centre's collection of fonds, in accordance with archival and information science procedures and techniques.

Manages and supervises service staff. Helps with centre promotion, planning and human, financial and material resource management.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Plans and manages archive service activities: analyzes service needs and, with the centre director, defines archive objectives and priorities (short, medium and long term) and develops policies, procedures, regulations and programs to meet these objectives.


Organizes, coordinates, manages and controls archive service activities, including acquisition, conservation, organization and dissemination, in accordance with archival and information science procedures and techniques.

Manages and supervises regular and contractual service staff and interns in performance of their tasks.

Works with them to define their objectives, reviews their work, evaluates their performance, and ensures their training and professional development.

Along with the centre director and the acquisitions committee, determines and implements centre archives acquisition policies.


Serves as a resource person for centre research projects and for various organizations in the fields of archival science, heritage and culture.


What you will bring:

Master's in archival studies or in library and information science (specializing in archival studies), with work experience

Thorough knowledge of French Canada in general and French Ontario in particular

Knowledge of Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and of research tools (guides, directories, inventories, database management systems, etc.)

Knowledge of federal and provincial laws concerning archives, copyright, access to information and protection of personal information

Experience with project and human resource management, strategic planning, problem-solving and negotiation

Experience in analyzing and summarizing complex situations in order to make recommendations and decisions


Writing experience:
administrative writing, reports, regulations and procedures

Ability to understand complex requests, develop search strategies and fulfill requests accurately and quickly

Organizational skills, with ability to work under pressure and meet firm deadlines

Ability to handle work requiring precision and attention to detail

Good vision, manual dexterity and physical strength to move boxes of up to 20 kg

Bilingualism — French/English (spoken and written)
