Position Overview:

Responsibilities:


  • In this position you will provide supervision, leadership, technical guidance and support to the sanitary and stormwater sewers operations and maintenance team and be responsible for the development and implementation of work programs and activities related to various components of the City's sanitary and stormwater sewer infrastructure, including:
  • Inspecting and monitoring approximately 2,000 km of sanitary and stormwater pipes, including the implementation of preventative flushing programs, blockage relief and pipe repairs.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of 23 sewage pumping stations.
  • Act as Overall-ResponsibleOperator (ORO) on a rotational basis
  • Maintenance of over 66 km of City watercourses
  • Maintenance of over 115 stormwater management facilities
  • Recruitment, training, and scheduling
  • Health and safety
  • Administration of wastewater collection licensing
  • Planning and coordinating maintenance programs, such as addressing sewer blockages, sewer flushing and cleaning, watercourses (creeks and stormwater maintenance facilities), pipe repairs, and pumping stations.
  • Communicate with internal City departments, external agencies, members of the public, and City Council.
  • Promote an inclusive, safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
  • Achieve business and service objectives through the effective use of resources to accomplish superior customer service and cost efficiencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Minimum 2year diploma or 2 years in a specialized postsecondary program in a related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a government managed Wastewater Collection Facility or equivalent.
  • Ministry of the Environment Wastewater Collection License
  • Level III with the ability to successfully complete the Wastewater Collection License
  • Level IV exam within 12 months.
  • Valid MTO "G" class driver's license in good standing with the ability to obtain a "DZ" driver's license within 6 months of hire.
  • Must provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • While Oncall, must be able to respond as required (including onsite) within 45 minutes.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience and/or substantial water/wastewater/stormwater infrastructure operations and maintenance experience.
