Job Summary

The Business Development Manager will be located in our Montreal office and is responsible for leading the sales process for Maptek, as well as working closely with the rest of the Maptek team to produce sales, training and consulting revenue.


This person will be part of the North America Sales Team, and will work closely with the rest of the Mine Solutions team to identify and prioritize opportunities with new and existing clients.

This role will involve pushing forward solutions at multiple levels of a client company and will therefore require an understanding of and experience in Complex Sales and Team Selling.


Essential Role Functions

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding annual revenue targets in the region through sales of Maptek's products and services.
  • Manage the entire sales cycle. This role is a combination of a traditional Business Development function and a Sales Rep function, from identifying and developing contacts at new target accounts all the way through close.
  • Focus on territory with responsibilities that can extend to other clients in North America.
  • Open doors, develop partnerships, show value and generate revenue using the existing network of mining contacts in the mine planning space.
  • Work very closely with North American Marketing and the rest of the Sales Team to identify priority prospects and opportunities in order to provide solutions to new and existing clients.
  • Maintain a current and accurate record of customer and prospect interaction in Maptek's CRM.
  • Utilize existing Maptek contacts to gain access to clients and potential clients.
  • Travel to and meet with existing and potential client companies and sites to ascertain their needs, pain points, challenges and present the benefits of potentially utilizing Maptek solutions.
  • Coordinate with other Sales and Technical Services personnel to move the sales process forward by arranging ontarget demos that address client needs and interests.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with decision makers (financial decision makers, influencers, users, etc.) at new or existing client offices / sites.
  • Provide Maptek Development efforts with innovative solution concepts, business cases, and product enhancement suggestions derived from customer input.
  • Contribute to the development of annual sales plans and forecasts.
  • Contribute to the setting of personal Key Performance Indicators.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Proven track record in technical sales.
  • An understanding of the mine modelling, design and planning process.
  • Ability to develop strategic sales plans and to execute on those plans.
  • Ability to work constructively with a diverse group of people, attitudes, and expectations across multiple Maptek offices.
  • Ability to deal with multiple, competing demands and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend the English and French language is required.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50%, primarily in the assigned territory.
  • Outstanding skills in relationship building, asking questions, listening to and understanding clients, and giving sales presentations.
  • An understanding of the sales process, solution/consultative selling, communicating customized value proposition and an ability to excel at each.
  • An understanding of the Team Selling approach to complex corporate sales.
  • An ability to arrange meetings with key personnel at prospective client companies.
  • Ability and desire to seek out new leads and drive sales cycle until closed. This will require teamwork and coordination with the rest of the Sales team.
  • Ability to build and maintain a consultative presence with significant clients and potential clients.
  • A natural ability to approach tasks and employees with a positive attitude.
  • Commitment to work in a safe and professional manner at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
