The Manager, Transplant Programs is responsible for managing multiple programs that have complex clinical mandates/objectives with broad and varied scopes, and a diverse set of stakeholders including physicians, senior hospital administrators, nurses, allied health professionals and patient and family advisors.

As part of this role, the Manager is accountable for the planning and administration of operations and system-wide program activities directly impacting patient care of varying scope and complexity, management of resources, and engagement of key internal and/or external stakeholders to ensure operational/program activities are executed based on plans and standards, and within specified timelines and budgets.


Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Management of clinical programs with direct impact on patient care and health systems
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Human resources management

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Leads development of operational/program strategy and collaborates with Director in broader transplant and donation strategy development
  • Sets and actions the required frameworks, methodologies and tools to execute on the operational/program plan
  • Oversees clinical programs with direct impact on patient care, including transplant allocation policies, donor exclusion criteria and patient waitlisting criteria
  • Manages relationships and engages a diverse set of stakeholder groups, including clinicians and hospital administrators, either to collaborate on delivery of key activities or solicit support and buy-in for operational/program activities; organizes and/or participates in committees as required
  • Monitors operational/program performance; provides status updates and reports on metrics
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and escalates key issues/risks to the Director; proposes and executes solutions to address challenges or mitigate risks
  • Collaborates and/or participates on national committees to advance pan Canadian transplant policies and strategies
  • Monitors budget across multiple, large, and/or complex operational areas/programs, and supports the Director in managing the overall budget
  • Manages a team of resources, including: setting performance expectations, allocating work, overseeing and ensuring the quality of outputs, measuring/reporting on performance outcomes, and performance management
  • Liaises with national and international procurement organizations to develop and implement transplant initiatives
  • Develops knowledge translation strategies to promote best practices and disseminates critical clinical information to stakeholders
  • Where required, deals with vendors or contractors, including negotiating contracts, managing issues and ensuring agreements are met
  • Supports integration within Ontario Health departments on related work as well as other initiatives within Trillium Gift of Life Network as needed
Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience- Master's degree required in a health related (clinical epidemiology, health sciences, health services research, health administration) or other relevant field, or combination of Bachelor's degree and at least five years experience in transplant system setting- A minimum of six years of health care related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience- Direct experience collaborating with hospital stakeholders and/or working within a hospital environment is an asset- Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects in a public-sector environment- Project Management Certification, Change Management Certification, and Lean Six Sigma training an asset- An understanding of Ontario's health care environment.

Clinical knowledge and/or knowledge of transplant systems an asset

Knowledge and Skills- The ability to translate broad goals into detailed strategic and operational plans; independently solve problems and make decisions to keep projects moving; and the capacity to engage and build relationships amongst stakeholders- Ability to communicate effectively with senior management from both internal and external healthcare organizations, and stakeholders- Highly skilled at anticipating and analyzing risks and issues, exploring alternatives, and developing appropriate recommendations- Excellent oral skills including the ability to create and deliver effective presentations at conferences, meetings and workshops on behalf of the program and answer questions posed by health care practitioners and administrators- Excellent numeracy and written skills including the ability to prepare detailed spreadsheets, briefing notes, proposals, reports, and letters- Excellent at team-building, listening, coaching, group facilitation and conflict resolution skills- Energy, enthusiasm, initiative and the ability to work
