ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Manager, Electrical oversees the electrical and project planning aspects of the Rail Mechanical Department in North Bay.


MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work with Electrical and Ramp Supervisor to ensure work is being done as per targets and requirements.
  • Monitor employee attendance.
  • Manage and address issues that arise in the locomotive electrical department.
  • Complete, update and submit required periodic reports, such as attendance report, Intelex, BMO, Kronos.
  • Prepare workflow charts and other planning resources for projects in the Diesel Shop.
  • Manage and coordinate the scheduling of ongoing and upcoming project work with the Diesel Shop.
  • Participate in the preparation of quotes, customer documents and other associated materials for locomotive overhaul.
  • Coordination of customer contracts to ensure deadlines and scopes of work are met.
  • Provide product and troubleshooting support to internal/external customers as required.
  • Recommend to Sr. Manager Operations and make changes where necessary to reallocation of resources based on operational requirements.
  • Tour shops continually looking to ensure compliance with safety procedures/practices and address any issues with the employees as soon as possible.
  • Adhere to departmental budget.
  • Conducts shop tours for visitors and clients.
  • Participate in employee recognition events.
  • Actively gather and contribute to continuous improvements to increase efficiencies including inspiring staff to embrace a continuous improvement culture
  • Work together with the union pertaining to provisions of the collective agreement.
  • Complete daily observation requirements and ensure supervisors complete their observation requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Certificate of Qualification as Electrician (309A or 442A) is required
  • College diploma in Business Administration preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in electrical (corrective, preventive, and structural maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, installation, lay out and planning)
  • 5+ years' experience in a Supervisory or Management role, providing leadership in a unionized environment
  • Experience managing departmental resources and budgets
  • Good computer knowledge skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
  • Reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints
  • Expertise in project planning and coordination
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all types of people, including trades and all levels of management
  • Knowledge of safety codes and demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner
  • Familiarity with Unifor agreements an asset
  • Commitment to company health and safety
  • Experience in rail is an asset
