Position Summary:
- Perth County is recruiting for the position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Summer Student. The GIS Summer Student will primarily consist of assisting in the maintenance and administration of the Corporation's GIS. Students will have the opportunity to work on a number of projects providing a full range of work experience and exposure to many of the varied duties of GIS staff working in a busy Municipal setting.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create and update data in ESRI's ArcGIS suite
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) on data products
- Create maps (hardcopy and webbased)
- Execute data requests with 3rd party contractors
- Updating County's municipal addressing and 911 map material
- Work closely with the GIS Coordinator and other staff in the development of enterprise datasets
- Preparation of mapping and reports for ongoing projects and special projects that are being undertaken by various Departments
- Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Geographic Information System (GIS) degree /diploma program at a University or Community College level
- A valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle, as travel is required.
- Access to reliable internet access
- Excellent customer services skills with the ability to interact with County staff
- Solid organizational and time management skills
- Strong problemsolving skills and decisionmaking ability
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
- Technical qualifications as listed on job mandate
Shift:
- Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week)
Hourly Rate: - $18.51Interviews may be done virtually.
