About Rechargeable Battery Materials in Canada


Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America.

The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada's electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.

Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.


What you will be doing
For this new site, we are looking for an
Analytical Development Manager, reporting to the RBM Domain Manager.

In this role you will be responsible for managing analytical development projects and support the global standardization and improvement of analytical instrumentation and methods by leading a local team of engineers/technologists and building, strengthening and sharing expertise in the field of chemical analysis (such as ICP-OES, XRF, moisture analysis, C analysis and titration) and/or materials characterization (such as density determination, PSD, BET, XRD and SEM).

You also acts as key contact person for the local analytical laboratory.


Responsibilities

  • Manage analytical development projects in all its aspects: project planning and execution, resource management, communication, risk/opportunity management and reporting.
  • Lead a local team of ACC engineers/technologists
  • Support the standardization and continuous improvement of analytical instrumentation and procedures.
  • Generate and explore ideas to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ACC and the analytical laboratories.
  • Act as liaison or key contact person for the local analytical laboratory and the key stakeholders (sales and applied technology, quality department, other ACC teams, other analytical laboratory).
  • Oversee, execute and collaborate on various analytical investigation (VOC, rootcause analysis, quality issue's,)
  • Maintain and nourish collaboration with instrument suppliers and the external analytical community
  • Builds and shares technical expertise in the field of chemical analysis and/or materials characterization, and of the local materials (raw materials, intermediates and final products) and the local production processes

Who we are looking for

  • Master in Chemistry, Geology or Materials Science or equivalent through working experience
  • Experience with Project Management in a global, researchdriven organization
  • Experience with chemical analysis and/or materials characterization
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and ISO1705 systems and concepts like measurement uncertainty, MSA, SPC
  • Leadership and coaching skills
  • Analytical thinking and technical curiosity
  • You have a good scientific curiosity and are creative to deal with complex analytical challenges
  • A team player and motivator profile within multicultural teams
