Competition:

Program:

Bruyère Research Institute

Position Type:

Full-time 37.5 hours/week (1.0 FTE), two years (with the possibility of extension)

Salary Scale:

$ $34.47

The Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to medical education and improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.

Function summary
As part of the global health focus at BRI, this project addresses onchocerciasis, a neglected tropical disease.

The shift of focus from control to elimination of onchocerciasis has resulted in targeting of hypoendemic areas, such as cross-border regions, for mass drug administration (MDA).

Cross-border regions have been recognized as complex areas for onchocerciasis elimination for myriad reasons. In particular, countries share breeding zones such as rivers at their borders.

Because these zones lie in varying levels of endemicity and their control activities (e.g., MDA schedules) may be uncoordinated, they likely have an important impact on progress towards disease elimination.

Documented cross-border challenges include human migration, vector migration, low motivation of community drug distributors (CDD), lack of funds, and linguistic, communication, and geographical barriers.

The primary aim of this study is to accelerate onchocerciasis elimination using an implementation research approach to reach hard-to-reach and migrant populations in selected cross-border regions in Mali.

We are currently seeking a full-time research Coordinator I to join the Threads Lab at the Bruyère Research Institute.
