Working Warehouse Manager

_General Responsibilities:

_The Warehouse Manager provides leadership and oversees the warehouse operation in a safe, secure, efficient and cost-effective manner that complies with company policy, ISO standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

The Warehouse Manager ensures the safe and proper receipt, storage, retrieval and timely dispatch of product.

This is a working position, so The Warehouse Manager must actively participate in the day to day operation of picking orders and receiving materials.


_Organizational Relationships:

The Warehouse Manager reports to the General Manager and works closely with the Sales Manager, Administration, Purchasing Department and the Quality, Health and Safety Department.

Warehouse personnel report to the Warehouse Manager.


_Specific Roles, Responsibilities & Functions:


_:


  • Work within the general framework laid down by the General Manager. Assist in planning and organizing the warehouse and yard facility for maximum use and efficiency. Supervise warehouse personnel, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, initiating corrective or disciplinary actions and documenting absences. Establish team leaders as appropriate. actively participate in the day to day operation of picking orders and receiving materials.
  • Assume accountability for warehouse operations, operate within budget and meet delivery expectations.
  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork within the workforce to ensure quality and productivity objectives are met.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store or maintain information either written or electronic. Assist in producing regular reports and providing statistical/informational data.
  • Brief warehouse team on issues and workload via scheduled meetings.
  • Actively meet with internal departments to ensure open lines of communication and alignment of objectives.
  • Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment and staff.
  • Assist in developing/modifying rules, practices, procedures and standards.
  • Actively seek training and/or information on warehousing best practices to increase overall knowledge of industry (product, equipment, procedures, etc.), safe work practices and training requirements and availability. Make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Ensure adequate supply of consumables (packing materials, paints, etc.) Oversee the approval of an employee being deemed 'competent' at a given task (saw use, quality control checks, pipe placement, etc.)
  • Actively participate in the resolution of nonconformances.
  • Resolve issues and concerns both with warehouse operations and personnel.
  • Schedule/ensure the warehouse team participates in inventory cycle counts.
  • Perform quarterly verbal and written reviews of the warehouse staff and work with the General Manager with regards to overall compensation for each team member.
  • Assist with Quality and Health and Safety audits as requested.
  • Maintain and upkeep equipment and tools and conduct job hazard analysis' (minimum once a year) as per company policy/procedures. Adhere to Quality, Health and Safety requirements,
  • Act as a leader and ensure Health and Safety issues and concerns are reported and addressed.
  • Work as a contributing team member, establish good relations within the company, with an emphasis on morale and teamwork attitude and carry out the position in a professional manner.
  • Other duties as requested/directed.

_Additional Skills/Knowledge:
_

- _Strong knowledge of the metal service industry

  • Must have a valid Forklift certificate
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse procedures and techniques including packaging, sorting, stacking, product placement/picking, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate warehouse machines/tools (forklifts, saws, banders, man lifts, hand tools, power tools, recoilers, etc.).
  • Effective people management skills with the ability to build a rapport with various personality types using diplomacy and tact.
  • Effective listening, communication (verbal and written), negotiation and phone skills.
  • Demonstrated competency hiring, developing and evaluating employees to achieve corporate and personal objectives.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Exceptional problemsolving and analytical abilities in a fast paced environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to perform business math (basic algebra, compute rate, ratio, etc.). Knowledge of sales operations including logistics, carriers, policies, procedures and product.
  • Working knowledge of company utilized distribution software, Microsoft Office Suite and contact management.
  • Selfmotivated and goal orientated.
  • Capable of following written and verbal instructions and procedures. Globally focused with a results driven attitude.
