$73,881 - $83,116 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Reporting to the Coordinator, Artistic Programming, and working closely with the Performing Arts programming team, the Artistic Programming Associate is responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders to establish and build relationships to execute events, services, and programs.

The goal of this work is to improve the effectiveness, consistency, and quality of participation in Performing Arts programs and programming.

Stakeholders include arts industry organizations, artists, rental clients, committees, businesses, professional associations, patrons, as well as staff, interns, students, volunteers, and other City departments.


Programs and curates Performing Arts events and activities:

  • Plans and executes programming under the supervision of the Coordinator, Artistic Programming
  • Provides arts industry specific support to the Coordinator, Artistic Programming
  • Integrates arts industry participation and engagement in Performing Arts programming.
  • Responsible for postevent evaluation process, as well as executing postevent/program evaluations in consultation with program areas, to determine how future events can be improved.
  • Collaborate on the development of event operational plans and ensure that required changes are implemented.
  • Project lead for Performing Arts special events (i.e. Season Launch, Educators Open House, etc.) and projects, as needed
  • Respond to lastminute complex public programming requests from internal and external stakeholders that require immediate action or accommodation.

Builds relationships and leads arts industry initiatives:

  • Maintains current and establishes new relationships with multiple stakeholders to seek ways to engage the community, foster talent development, increase facility usage, encourage participation, partner with businesses and organizations, and bring artists to the stages of Performing Arts venues.
  • Responsible for maintaining Performing Arts contacts and related information for the arts industry, and associated programming.
  • Ensure that industry partners' needs are met to participate in or collaborate on programming.
  • Address issues with City of Brampton policies, procedures, contractual requirements, and methodology identified by arts industry partners.
  • Ensure that arts industry partners fulfil contractual requirements.

Promotes Performing Arts events and activities and develops artists and arts industry opportunities:

  • Attends meetings, activities, and events to raise awareness of programs and services, promoting the Performing Arts Division, to build its profile.
  • Identifies ways to increase participation, attendance and traffic in Performing Arts venues and programs.
  • Supports marketing and promotion initiatives and activities with the local arts industry, including providing guided tours of facilities.
  • Collaborates with Divisional Staff and supports the preparation of programming recommendations for the Performing Arts Executive

Leads internal communication to support Performing Arts local arts industry initiatives:

  • Provides two-way information and communication for all Performing Arts business areas at meetings, activities, and events.
  • Determines how communication is shared, confirms how it will be actioned, and establishes timelines for action and followup.
  • Ensures coordination with other local arts industry and event initiatives within the City.
  • Represents the Performing Arts Division in City, local arts industry and event planning groups and committees.

Supervise support staff (contract, part-time, volunteer)

  • Daily onsite supervision of work duties, scheduling, adherence to City policies and procedures (i.e. Health and Safety and payroll documentation);
  • Meets with staff for recruiting, training, and coaching. Provides performance evaluation feedback, including discipline, if needed.
  • Evaluates staff training needs and arranges for training initiatives, particularly regarding qualifications and certifications.
  • Provide onsite or remote immediate resolution or decisionmaking to frontline staff for issues that arise onsite during events.
