About the Harm Reduction Department
SWCHC's Harm reduction department has undergone a period of rapid growth and intersecting crises over the past few years.

The department encompasses our pioneering NESI van and daytime programs, Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS), Safe Supply/ OAT program, DOPE Response and Homeless Crisis Outreach teams, HIV testing and outreach, support to the Catherine St.

social services hub, and more.

The Harm Reduction team is a diverse, interdisciplinary group comprised of nurses, social workers and lived experience workers among other professional and personal backgrounds.


Role


Reporting to the Operations Manager, Harm Reduction, the Team Lead is responsible for the day to day coordination of the SWCHC NESI staff and program, overseeing client care coordination, daily staff coverage, the Peer Program, the Safe Inhalation Program and other areas of work engaged in by the NESI team.

Additional areas of responsibility will include the distribution of harm reduction supplies via the outreach van and onsite Gear Window, and support to the Shower Program.

This position will play a key role in the oversight and promotion of the regional Safe Inhalation Program, maintaining the ongoing maintenance and quality of this program both internally and in the Ottawa region.

The Team Lead will also play a key role in the growth of the NESI program, seeking out and facilitating opportunities for program development and evolution, with a focus on implementing accessible and relevant group treatments for persons who use drugs and are street involved, who are experiencing challenges with their substance use, mental health and trauma symptoms.

This Team Lead role will also work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide health care and treatment to clients of the NESI program.

This role will also include cross-coverage for other parts of the Harm Reduction Program as needed.


Areas of responsibility include advocating for the needs and rights of people who use drugs (PWUD) to low barrier, non-stigmatizing, trauma-informed services and supports.

The Team Lead ensures pathways to needed services and advocacy supports for current participants, as supporting a diverse team of staff, volunteers, and students, many of whom are also past or current drug users.

The Team Lead plays a lead role in assessing gaps in services and responding to changing needs and trends through the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programming to meet the needs of the drug using communities accessing the NESI program.

The team lead also provides daily coordination, scheduling and support to the staff of the program, in collaboration with the Harm Reduction Leadership Team.


Requirements:

Education

  • Postsecondary education in harm reduction, social work, behavioural therapy, or equivalent experience.
Professional Experience

  • Priority: lived or living expertise in substance use an asset
  • Priority: identifying as member of Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour (BIPOC) community an asset
  • Priority: clinical certification an asset: ex. registered social worker, registered psychotherapist, registered nurse or practical nurse; certified addictions therapist; or formal training in concurrent disorders
  • Preference given to those with previous experience in a leadership role
  • Preference given to those with previous experience with adult education initiatives
  • Successful completion of police record check for vulnerable populations
  • Valid CPR and First Aid
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with clinical presentations and therapeutic responses for individuals experiencing trauma, concurrent disorders and homelessness
  • Experience in delivering group therapeutic interventions to individuals living with dia
