JOB SUMMARY


The Recreation Therapy Assistant is a resident-focused position that develops and implements individual and group programs designed to motivate, activate, and promote the mental, physical, social and intellectual, and spiritual well-being of the resident.

This position will work in accordance with all policies and procedures of the home and will work in a safe and healthy manner, and follow the regulations outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:


  • Assisting with resident admission assessment to determine interests, abilities' and function and implement appropriate programming
  • Provide engaging activities for a diverse population of residents in the Long-Term Care.
  • Work with other team members to plan and conduct facilitywide events that include evenings and weekends as required.
  • Act as a member of Lifecare committees as required.
  • Utilize Activity Pro charting system to record residents' activity attendance.
  • Work with the team for assigned resident home areas and assist with ideas for the facilitywide calendar.
  • Participate in the preparation of the facility for Ministry reviews and Accreditation.
  • Assist with the coordination of students, community agencies, schools, entertainment, and volunteer positions.
  • Assume responsibility for ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from a degree or diploma course in Recreation/Leisure Leadership from a recognized community college or university
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in Long Term Care
  • Computer experience with Point Click Care, and Activity Pro an asset
  • Music Skill is an asset

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle to feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 to 40 kilograms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • Performing all work in accordance with the policies & procedures of the Lifecare Centre and Ontario Health & Safety Act as related to Long Term Care.
  • Attending all mandatory inservices according to the policies & procedures of the facility.
