    Water and Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee

    -Northwest Polytechnic Student

    Temporary Full Time

    (Approximately May 1 – August 30, 2024)

    Reports To: Water and Wastewater Operations Manager

    Summary:

    We are currently recruiting for a Student Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator trainee for our Class III Water and Class IV Wastewater Treatment Plants in Grande Prairie and for other facilities within Alberta.

    This position is temporary full-time approximately 40 hours per week.

    Job Duties

    • performing facility operation and maintenance tasks related to process monitoring and optimization
    • laboratory and field analysis
    • reporting and detailed record keeping
    • other related duties as assigned
    • shift work may be required

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will:

    • be astudent enrolled in the Northwestern Polytechnic Water and Wastewater Technician program for the school year
    • be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • be self-motivated, organized and safety conscious
    • be able to work as part of a team or independently without direct supervision
    • have a proven mechanical aptitude, good analytical and problem-solving skills
    • have a basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biology and computers
    • have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively
    • consistently model Aquatera's Values and Principles; as well as incorporating continuous improvement initiatives
    • have a valid Class five Drivers' license
    • have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent

    As conditions of employment, the successful candidate will be required to:

    • Provide a valid Canadian Driver's license (minimum class 5)
    • Provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to the employer
    • Pass a 50 lb. fitness test
    • Complete a comprehensive drug and alcohol test with results satisfactory to the employer

    A current driver's abstract will be required at time of interview.

    Compensation is per the CUPE collective agreement.
