Basic Function:

Reporting to the Supervisor, General Maintenance, this position is required, under close supervision to repair, paint, related carpentry work and may be assigned locksmith responsibilities.

This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Strategic Plan.


Responsibilities:


  • Duties include, but are not restricted to, the installation, repair and preventative maintenance of buildings, fences, enclosures, and roadways.
  • Performs all forms of rough and finished carpentry.
  • Builds various items using plexiglass, acrylics, mesh, and wood.
  • Performs glazier functions.
  • Performs concrete work including forming, pouring, and finishing.
  • Performs masonry work including block laying and repairs.
  • Performs work on elevated structures.
  • Erects scaffolding.
  • Other related duties as requested by Supervisor.

Qualifications:


  • Must possess a Carpenters certificate of trade qualification valid in the Province of Ontario.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) or more years proven experience in all phases of Carpentry.
  • Experience working with plexiglass and acrylics an asset.
  • Experience in concrete forming and finishing an asset.
  • Experience in masonry work an asset.
  • Must have working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS) legislation, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Building Code and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Must be able to read plans and schematic drawings.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and utilize technical manuals.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and Holidays.
  • Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver's license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record.
