We are looking for a Data Steward to join the Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) team on a two-year fixed-term. In this role, you will champion and advance data management practices, ensuring sustainable value of RTX data.

Spearhead RTX's evolution in data curation and interoperability by establishing and maintaining a dataset catalog, alongside a robust master and reference data management solution, supported by a comprehensive governance framework.

Reporting to the Manager - Technical Information Systems & Governance, and working a desirable Monday to Friday schedule, you will:

  • Ensure good corporate governance is promoted and applied in the use of technical systems and in the management of data globally.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee governance of a centralised master and reference data solution for RTX.
  • Curate, annotate, and publish highvalue datasets for consumption by RTX geoscientists and data scientists.
  • Improve data quality for RTXmanaged systems by developing and promoting quality and verification tools and reporting.
  • Facilitate discovery and access to new data, sourcing from external parties and ensuring freshness.
  • Facilitate alignment and coordination between the RTX D&IM team, regional operational teams, and orebody knowledge SMEs, to promote data quality and reference standards.
  • Provide support and direction to teams within RTX in the adoption of improved data quality and governance culture and systems for current and future value creation.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or Information Technology.
  • Experience with data management and data governance principles.
  • A solid understanding of the exploration process.
  • Sound analytical skills to understand business requirements, identify as well as evaluate options and deliver systems, information, and data solutions to address business needs.
  • The proven ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional and technical staff to achieve customer focused outcomes.
  • Advanced technical skills (including scripting) using one or more of GIS, database management, document management, automation, and workflow management systems.
  • A passion for capturing and curating high quality and making it easily available to geoscientists and analytics specialists.
