- Reporting to OFI's Chief Administrative Officer, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) Specialist will play a key role in the governance and management of the Transforming Climate Action (TCA) research program through developing and implementing strategy to ensure TCA meets its strategic EDIA goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive EDIA strategy, including implementation plan and performance measurement metrics, employing a collaborative, consultative process among the 4 partner institutions.
- Oversee implementation of the EDIA strategy, including mechanisms to review success and make timely adjustments as may be needed.
- Conduct ongoing study into the unique challenges faced by under represented groups in the ocean research sector, and on new and evolving best practices to address those challenges, with a goal to incorporate advancements into TCA EDIA strategy.
- Report on progress to the TCA governance bodies, respond to questions, and take follow up action as required.
- Work closely with communications staff to develop a communications plan for the EDIA strategy with the goal of ensuring support and participation from other partners and stakeholders, such as industry and international partners.
- Contribute to decision making across all TCA programs and projects in advancing EDIA outcomes.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience developing and implementing strategy in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, and/or accessibility.
- Experience conducting research (i.e., collecting data, producing environmental scans, conducting interviews, compiling reports) to produce evidencebased recommendations and plans.
- Proven strong and respectful interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal alongside the ability to develop a range of communication materials (plans, reports) to support goals.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse groups to achieve goals.
Assets
- Graduate degree in a related field.
- Familiarity with Government of Canada Tri-Agency EDIA best practices, guidelines, and policies.
- An understanding of challenges particular to underrepresented groups in the ocean sector.
- Experience working in or with a university research environment.
- Experience in Indigenous community engagement including an understanding of relevant protocols, principles, and practices for respectful engagement.
- Bilingualism, English and French.
