About the Position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Fund Administration

  • The IA facilitates all deposits into and withdrawals out of the longterm portfolios, including trade activity related to investment manager contributions and redemptions, capital calls, portfolio rebalancing, and pensioner payments.
  • The IA prepares and delivers trade instructions to investment managers and custodian, including the preparation of wire instructions, arranging for appropriate signatories' authorization of all transactions, etc.
  • The IA monitors the asset mix of the fund and alerts the Director of Investments when any asset class is nearing the margin of the tolerable range set out in the investment policy.
  • The IA assists the Director of Investments with rebalancing decisions to maintain fully invested positions and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet internal cash requirements.
  • The IA liaises with accounting staff, auditors, and service providers to obtain and confirm account information, reconcile differences, answer questions, facilitate trade activity, etc.
  • The IA facilitates the completion of time sensitive tax and regulatory filings.

Performance Measurement

  • The IA manages the day to day relationship with the performance reporting service provider, monitors reports to ensure that they are accurate and timely, coordinates reporting modifications resulting from the addition or removal of an investment manager and changes to the benchmark index.
  • The IA monitors the results and performance of the investment managers against their respective and collective mandates and expectations.
  • The IA assists the Director of Investments in preparing any other report required, including reports on risk, portfolio positions, investment manager fee analysis, manager style and structuring.

Investment Policy

  • The IA assists in the review and revisions to the statements of investment policy and ensures that service providers and regulatory authorities have up to date copies of the approved policy.
  • The IA reviews quarterly asset lists, performance and compliance reports provided by the investment managers and reports any deviations from the investment policy to the Director of Investments.
  • The IA ensures that investment managers provide signed compliance statements for audit purposes.

Investment Advisory Committee


The IA supports the Director of Investments in facilitating the work of the Investment Advisory Committee and is responsible for making arrangements for virtual and in-person meetings, preparing agendas, meeting materials and other reports for review by the Committee, taking and circulating meeting minutes, etc.


In-Kind Donation Program

  • The IA supports the Treasury management group in managing the inkind securities donation program. The IA facilitates the process of requesting tax receipts, recording and sale of securities.

General Administration

  • The IA facilitates all administrative requirements of the service providers, including legal agreements, Know Your Client documentation, authorized signatories, etc.
  • The IA facilitates the onboarding process of new investment managers including documentation and account setup with the manager, custodian, and performance teams.
  • The IA ensures the timely completion of all industry surveys, association membership renewals, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completion of a university degree in commerce, finance, or business administration.
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in the investment industry, preferably in a performance measurement, fund administration, risk measurement, or external investment manager research role.
  • Experience with external investment manager oversight functions would be an asset.
  • A proven ability to maintain strong current knowledge of investment research, trends and directions and an ability to translate this information into actionable initiatives.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:


  • Excellent analytical skills and functional knowledge of computerbased analysis
