Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Strategic Coordinator for a full-time continuing opportunity with our University Relations department.

Reporting to the Vice-President, University Relations (VP UR), you will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and follow-through of department-wide initiatives and projects, from conceptualization to completion, including the execution of complex and confidential assignments and projects.


In this role, you will:

  • Plan and manage projects across the University Relations portfolio, which may be institutionwide highprofile projects, often with a significant external engagement and communications component (i.e., Chancellor Speaker series, State of the University, etc.);
  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination of departmental strategic planning activities, including business plans, briefings, and presentations;
  • Support to the UR leadership team by providing strategic consultation, recommendations, reports and advice;
  • Research, analyze and resolve issues;
  • Collaborate across portfolio department lines to develop and facilitate effective solutions on initiatives, programs, and projects;
  • Develop communications, including briefing documents, correspondence, reports, presentations and internal responses for strategic priorities and emergent issues;
  • Lead the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of performance metrics;
  • Assist with tracking and maintenance of budgets, oversight, and attention to controls on contracts and portfolio expenditures;
  • Coordinate of corporate initiatives;
  • Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to project staff; and
  • Plan events and initiatives for both the President and VP UR.

SKILLS

  • Excellent and effective communication (written, verbal and listening), presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with a proven ability to manage projects, multiple priorities and competing deadlines;
  • Excellent prioritization, delegation, and human resource management skills;
  • The ability to work independently and adapt to a somewhat ambiguous and rapidly changing environment;
  • The ability to manage changing priorities, complex and confidential information and sensitive issues in a timely manner;
  • A commitment to tact, diplomacy, and teamwork; and
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or other related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible professional experience.
  • Training and experience in project management.
  • Experience in strategic business planning approaches and implementation, and business process improvement.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset.
  • Experience preparing budgets would be an asset.
  • Experience in a postsecondary or a related public sector environment would be an asset.
  • Equivalences may be considered.
