    Thank you for your interest in the Casual Access Notetaker position with the York Region District School Board.

    This position is responsible for providing access through text interpretation for deaf/hard of hearing students to ensure they receive the oral communication and auditory information exchanged between students, teachers, support staff, parents and others involved in educational programs and the school community in compliance with Board policies and procedures.


    Please Note:
    You may also be considered for temporary and/or permanent opportunities as they arise throughout the year.

    Casual Positions:

    On call, as-needed basis to cover absences of permanent employees ranging from daily occurrences up to 30 consecutive working days.


    Temporary Positions:
    This is a position that is available for a period in excess of 30 consecutive working days to replace a permanent employee who is absent on an approved leave of absence (e.g. pregnancy, parental, educational or medical leave).

    Permanent Positions:
    These are full-time positions (35 hours per week).

    To provide real time print transcription of spoken language by providing a representation of the content and intent of what is spoken in the classroom to the deaf/hard of hearing student.

    To research topics and prepare in advance for curriculum content and terminology in regular classrooms and other educational settings.

    To attend professional development sessions/training as required.
    Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post-secondary education is required.
    Excellent grammar and typing skills are required.
    A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required.

    Employees are expected to work at least 30 days within the current school year to remain on the casual list.

    The Board highly recommends that employees accept as many shifts as possible throughout the year to encourage advancement within the Board.
