Position Summary:
The International Student Advisor (ISA) is responsible for enhancing the success of the international student experience at St. Lawrence College. Develops/facilitates/advises students with all aspects related to the successful transition from pre-arrival to post-graduation. The ISA is responsible for developing/facilitating student success initiatives and retention strategies.
Provides a multiple range of advising/support, which may include issues related to Canadian Immigration, Health Care, Health Insurance, Housing, Career Counselling, Employment, Cross-Cultural Communication, etc.
As a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA), the ISA develops/coordinates International Student Success workshops and events.Liaises and collaborates with SSFs, faculty/program coordinators and service areas for the purpose of understanding issues, sharing student concerns and determining/implementing solutions.
In addition to the advising role, the International Student Advisor is responsible for developing/coordinating cultural activities/trips that enhance the International Student experience and participates in international recruitment activities.
The ISA position is critical to the College's internationalization strategy.Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A minimum of a 2-year diploma in Business, Human Services or Social Sciences. Diversity training Intercultural Communications (or equivalent) recommended.
A minimum of 3 years of related, progressive work experience, preferably in a post-secondary educational environment, international educational service environment or social services environment.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to obtain a RISIA or RCIC certification.
- Ability to work in a fastpaced, multicultural, multilingual, and multidimensional environment.
- Ability to plan, schedule & facilitate presentations.
- Ability to coordinate guest speakers and establish event agendas.
- Ability to create content to distribute to international students on appropriate platforms.
- Ability to develop activities that facilitate student interaction and integration into the college community, such as orientation.
- Ability to obtain and prepare necessary documents.
- Ability to provide students and staff with timely information.
- Ability to assess students' needs, determine possible resolutions & help connect to supports.
- Ability to track data of students utilizing services.
- Ability to coordinate required payments and meet any contractual obligations.
- Ability to inform students about trip details such as departure and return times.
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements:
The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location. Travel to the other campuses, as required.
Medium (between 5 to 20 kg and 11 to 44 lbs) to heavy (over 20 kg or 44 lbs) lifting may be required.
