Job Description:

Make a difference as a Deputy Corporate Officer.

In this full-time, permanent position, you will join our Corporate Services team, reporting to the Director of Corporate Services.

You will manage corporate records and confidential information, prepare high-level correspondence and communications, type and compile agenda packages, process files and resolutions, and record and transcribe minutes for Council and Committee meetings.

You will also type minutes using Word, organize databases and Excel spreadsheets, work with agenda management software and run YouTube meeting broadcasts.


As the Deputy Corporate Officer, your role is integral to enhancing the productivity of the senior leadership team and supporting the organization in achieving its goals.

You will provide high-level administrative and clerical support to our senior leadership team, CAO and Mayor and Council, including calendar management, and arranging travel and accommodations.


In addition, you will act as the Corporate Officer for the City of Merritt and perform the functions of s148 of the Community Charter in the absence of the Director of Corporate Services.


Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field supplemented with coursework and progressive administrative experience.
  • A legal assistant with an understanding of local government acts and regulations along with land title records searching may be considered or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A certificate in Local Government Administration or a Certified Municipal Clerk qualification is preferred.
  • Understanding of the Community Charter and Local Government Act.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively when working with individuals and groups, along with strong listening and writing skills.
  • Takes responsibility for personal effectiveness, work quality, and timeliness and achieves results with modest oversight.
  • Proficient computer skills in an Office 365 environment.
  • A typing speed of 5070 wpm+ is preferred.
  • Exercises tact and diplomacy when working with elected officials, staff, the public and others.
  • Builds relationships and solves problems proactively, adapts to the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works autonomously to manage time and resources and meet deadlines.
