The Accounting Manager is responsible for the professional fiscal management of the Sheraton Cavalier Saskatoon Hotel and The James Hotel which includes leading the hotel accounting team in providing timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis to the hotel and corporate management teams.

This position ensures proper systems and controls are in place to effectively capture the transactions and safeguard the assets of the hotel; and lead the hotel in the effective management of the hotel expenses relative to business volumes.

This role is an integral participant in identifying, analyzing and implementing new revenue sources.


Responsibilities

Leadership and Senior Management Support

  • Provide regular operating reports to hotel management; assist with analysis of expenditures
  • Responsible for day to day functions of the accounting office, month end documentation and reporting as required by senior management and the corporate office
  • Ensure compliance to policies and procedures outlined by the corporate office as well as ensuring employment laws and standards are enforced

Financial Accounting

  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting for the hotel including, but not limited to, payroll, administration of employee benefit plans and account reconciliations.
  • Supervisory capacity over and actively participating in all functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, payroll processing, sales and inventory control.
  • Ensure that all regulatory filings and remittances are completed and submitted on a timely basis.
  • Overall cost controls and reporting, including daily, weekly and monthly reports.

Employee Development

  • Provide leadership and support to the accounting staff; hire, train and supervise.
  • Ensure positive and productive working relationships are maintained within the department and company; represent the company with professionalism, honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Manage the accounting department in a cost effective and efficient manner through employee training and development and by continually looking for improvements in work and business processes.

Experience

  • 2+ years' experience in an accounting environment required; thorough understanding of financial reporting, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable collections, credit approvals and client relations.
  • Experience in the Hotel/Restaurant industry will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with budgetary processes and cost control
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel is required
  • Experience with budgetary processes; cost control/revenue maximization
  • Knowledge of local, regional, Provincial and Federal laws and regulations (including tax and payroll regulations)
