Nestled in the heart of the beautiful rural community of Walkerton is Brucelea Haven, a home for 144 residents. Alongside the picturesque Colpoys Bay in Wiarton, 100 residents call Gateway Haven Home.

Both homes were built in 2003, replacing existing Homes for the Aged, thereby continuing a tradition of quality care in Bruce County.

The success of the operation of both homes is built on the foundation that this is a true 'home' for all its Residents.

Home is a place where residents may live with dignity and in security, safety, and comfort and have their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs adequately met.

This strong foundational belief is encompassed by and supported by the legislation and regulations highlighted in "The Residents' Rights" and "The Long Term Care Homes Act, 2007".

Both Brucelea Haven and Gateway Haven operate as municipal homes, and the not-for-profit structure allows for a level of care that is exceptional quality while being transparent in operation and accountability.

Salary
Starting at $19.50 per hour, plus a 4% in lieu of vacation.

About the Job

Under the supervision of the Registered Staff, the Resident Support Assistant (RSA) provides assistance by performing routine tasks that do not involve direct resident care.

The RSA is responsible and accountable for providing optimum services in the provision of activities of daily living and dining services.

This is a temporary position for up to April 2023, with possibility of extension.

Variable hours available - 12 hour shifts on the floor assisting and 8 hour shifts screening at the front entrance.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Make beds, change linen, collect and bag soiled linen/clothing and deliver to the appropriate locations
Porter and escort residents as needed to meals, programs/activities, and exercises
Assist residents in the dining room by taking meal requests and serving meals
Act as the second care provider in lifts and transfers, including the use of mechanical devices
Cleaning of bathtubs between baths and stocking supplies
Removing garbage from resident rooms and public areas
Clean resident rooms including organization of residents personal belongings
Putting away resident clothing and taking laundry from resident floors to laundry
Exercise care in use of Brucelea and Gateway Haven equipment and residents' belongings
Complete assigned tasks and duties in a timely manner

Requirements:

Secondary School Diploma preferred
Ability to speak, read, and write English
Computer literate
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work interdependently
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and good organizational skills
Resident/family oriented, and able to act as an advocate of residents rights
Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
