CNC Machinist

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the CNC Machinist is responsible for creating quality parts produced on various machines such as but not limited to manual and CNC lathes and milling machines and general shop equipment according to company production requirements, blueprints, and other diagrams.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines such as but not limited to lathes and milling machines.
  • Responsible for loading parts, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, deburring, and inspection of parts for conformance to quality requirements.
  • Interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  • Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of production. Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
  • Communicate with supervisor, engineer, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and performing basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere and comply with the Company
ISO9001 Quality Program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.

  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or other specialized measuring instruments.
  • Create and modify CNC lathe & mill programs as necessary.
  • Maintain programs & backup all CNC programs on each machine in their area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/management.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Postsecondary diploma or certification in a related field preferred.
  • Machinist Red Seal an Asset.
  • 35 years' experience operating a CNC Machine (Lathe / Mill).
  • 35 years of setup and programming experience required.
Instruments include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.

  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, tool coatings and other accessories used on various machines for ordering and use.
  • Ability to use reference material for setting parameters for cutting tools.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Maintain a tidy work area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance prescribed by Maintenance department.

Hours of Work

  • Monday to Thursday, 10hour shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as requested.
  • Flexibility to accept different shifts in the future as required.

Working Conditions

  • This position is in a manufacturing shop environment and may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
  • Extended periods of standing. Changing from sitting to standing positions throughout the workday.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripheral.
  • Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large.

Compensation

  • Starting wage: $26.00/hour
