    Support Staff Full-time Replacement Appendix D Contract Position (May 15, 2024 – December 15, 2024)

    We require a qualified individual to act as the senior technical resource for the Bachelor of Applied Health Information Science Program and support educational technology and e-Practice systems within the School of Health & Life Sciences. This individual will maintain relationships with internal departments (such as ITS, Co-op, Career Services, and WIL, Nursing programs and LRC) to facilitate the placement, development and maintenance of electronic health record systems, and other information management systems, required to enhance the learning experience.

    Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement from Monday to Friday, including three days on-site and two days working remotely, with hours spanning from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

    Responsibilities:

  • Planning infrastructure requirements to support ePractice Software and EMRs, and coordinating the installation of solutions with vendors
  • Developing and maintaining system configuration maps to guide installation and maintenance
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring virtualized Microsoft Windows and Linux servers using VMWare ESXi
  • Configuring and maintaining computer systems and in the Health Informatics Hub
  • Supporting and documenting health care integration technologies such as HL7 and integration engines
  • Managing implications related to server and storage requirements
  • Troubleshooting equipment to determine sources of application failure with the goal of restoring functionality as quickly as possible to ensure uninterrupted use by students and professors
  • Preparing hard drive images semester to semester for student learning in laptop/tablet programs
  • Supporting BAHIS labs and other School programs with hands-on technology through demos/tutorials and troubleshooting
  • Functioning as technical expert and the first point of contact for faculty desiring to bring a new e-practice tool to the School
  • Directing students to career resources, and providing helpful feedback
  • Finding community partners for the BAHIS Fields Studies, and supporting students during their placement
  • Maintaining a social network presence and monitoring social networking content
  • Conducting orientations sessions each Fall for students and faculty to ensure familiarity with the health informatics environment, modeling expectations in the field for HI support
  • Planning and delivering annual demonstration sessions for students to ensure they have basic proficiency before they go to their practicum sites
  • Ensuring information management system(s) are available for BEPH students in collaboration with faculty, and per the annual plan
  • Participating in scenarios with BAHIS/BEPH faculty to demonstrate HI support roles and problem solving with system installations
  • Planning for and engaging BAHIS/BEPH students through curriculum projects
  • Managing the HI Hub for student information and support related to e-practice technology
  • Developing and maintaining an inventory of all systems and applications and their operating requirements to facilitate maintenance, updating and back-up
  • Developing and managing partner relations and agreements to have partners' systems on site, ensuring tie-in and conformance with IT systems and infrastructure
  • Exploring and monitoring developments in practice that could add to the teaching and learning environment for e-practice and undertaking research on behalf of faculty to determine potential new resources to meet curriculum needs
  • Actively collaborating with faculty to integrate systems into learning and curriculum
  • Maintaining an inventory of current and potential application projects related to HI & IM work in the School and with respect to external inquiries for planning student projects
  • Maintaining the physical environment in a professional manner and monitoring safety expectations
  • Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Science, Health Information Management, or related degree is required
  • Minimum two years of experience in system support for an IT application area, preferably in health care
  • Proven ability and aptitude working with information technology and informatics
  • Proven record of exercising initiative, creativity, and ability to work and problem solve with minimal supervision
  • Excellent knowledge of computer software and adaptability working with computer software
  • Excellent organizational skills; must be able to set and re-arrange priorities on an ongoing basis
  • Event management experience and capability an asset
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with numerous individuals
  • Experience with client/customer service and teaching
