JOB SUMMARY:
UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE LIBRARY MANAGER TO PERFORM VARIOUS DUTIES IN TECHNICAL SERVICES, PARTICULARLY FOR NON-PRINT MATERIAL. WITHIN THESE DUTIES, THE LIBRARY TECHNICIAN WILL PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN SEVERAL AREAS OF LIBRARY MEDIA SERVICES.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Cataloguing / Classification- Catalogue newly acquired library material (print and non-print) in compliance with current library standards using LCSH, AACR2, RDA and Library of Congress Classification schedules.


  • Performing tasks which include but are not limited to: database cleanup/maintenance, download records into the library system, property stamping, labelling, barcoding, preparing new material using established library procedures.
Acquisition- Assist with collection development process (print and non print)

  • Maintain records for print serials collection
  • Report to Library manager any need for additional library equipment.
  • Assist with selecting and ordering print and nonprint library materials, checking prices, figuring costs, preparing order slips, and making payments.
Reference / Information- Assist at the Reference Desk service point. Provide information and reference services using print and electronic tools.

  • Instruct library users in the use of online catalogue, online databases, reference materials, and the internet.
  • Assist library users in the use of library equipment including computers, photocopiers and audiovisual equipment.
Other Related Duties- Assist in maintaining Procedure Manual for Technical Services

  • Perform service desk procedures as required.
  • Perform other special requests or projects as required, including the preparation of displays.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

To have a college diploma in an appropriate speciality, (DEC) in Information and Library Technologies, or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority


Specific Requirements:


  • Knowledge of online database for journal articles, periodical and videos.
  • Ability to deal effectively with Library patrons and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Autonomous able to work with mínimal supervision.
  • Initiative, resultsoriented, interest in contributing to the development of a new organization
  • Excel (basic)
  • English advanced oral and written
  • French basic oral

Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Excel (basic)
  • English (Advanced oral and written)
