About the Opportunity

The Consult Nurse reports to the Health Services Manager of the Palliative Care Service. The Consult Nurse, utilizing a comprehensive range of specialized nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, and consultation skills, works collaboratively with patients and their chosen families. The Consult Nurse coordinates and facilitates the clinical processes, within their scope of practice, related to Palliative Care delivery to ensure seamless access to assessments, interventions, and the ongoing support needed.

The Consult Nurse collaborates with other members of the interprofessional team to achieve the purpose and goals of the palliative care service including providing information, navigation, referrals, coordination of clinical issues, public and provider education, continuous quality improvement initiatives such as streamlining documentation, processes, and maintaining records of clinical interactions.

The Consult Nurse works as part of the Specialist Palliative Care Team including but not limited to Palliative Medicine Physicians and Palliative Care Social Workers. The team works collaboratively with and supports Family Physicians, other Specialist Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care, and other service providers to guide, plan, implement, and evaluate the provision of quality Palliative Care Services to meet the needs of patients and families. The incumbent may be required to cover all aspects of the Palliative Care service; inpatient unit, clinic, community clinic etc.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Current registration and licensure (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses required
  • CNA Specialty Certification in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing required; should no applicants demonstrate CNA certification, consideration may be given to applicants willing to complete within one year of hire
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience caring for patients and families receiving palliative care.
  • Should no applicants demonstrate the required palliative care nursing experience, consideration may be given to applicants with 3 years of acute care experience
  • LEAP course is required; if no applicants demonstrate completion of LEAP, may consider applicants willing to obtain upon hire
  • In-depth knowledge of palliative care, including both clinical and supportive care
  • In-depth knowledge of local and provincial palliative care services
  • Community experience is considered an asset
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license
  • Experience in team and leadership roles an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Part-time long assignment / 37.5 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximately a 14-monrh assignment
  • Shifts may include evenings, weekends, holidays

Compensation and Benefits

$ $51.11 Hourly
