Description
The Divisional Children and Youth Program Coordinator assists in the coordination of activities associated with discipleship and outreach programs for children, youth, and young adults at the divisional (Alberta & Northern Territories) level.
They seek to connect The Salvation Army and community at large through impactful programming and intentional local support.The Children and Youth Program Coordinator assists in the camping operations at Pine Lake Camp, living onsite during summer months while implementing a faith-based camping program for children and youth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Divisional Youth Ministries
- Provide assistance in identifying, recommending, developing, and maintaining programs for divisional children and youth ministries, in support to ministry units through leadership training, development and resourcing
- Coordinates and assists in the leadership of divisional children and youth events (i.e., Spark, Fuse) and discipleship programs
- Coordinates, implements, maintains, and assists in the evaluation of programs/ministries relevant to the youth of the church and the community at large; may plan and conduct creative worship services, evangelistic outreach, care programs (including ongoing visitation), and Bible studies as applicable
- Creates and distributes promotional materials for divisional children and youth events
- May develop and implement appropriate leadership development programs for youth and those involved in youth leadership
- Mentors, disciples, and encourages young leaders through Divisional programs and modeling the values of The Salvation Army
- Prays with and/or leads youth and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits
Summer Camping Programs
- Camp Program Director during the summer camping season
- Design and implement quality and creative Christian camping program including scheduling of summer camps in consultation with the DCYS's
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program camp staff in partnership with the DCYS's
- Maintain summer camp material and tools including staff handbook, PLC policies and procedures
- Assist Ministry Units in connecting with children who have attended
Pine Lake Camp:
coach and resource Children and Youth workers
Administrative
- Process required documents for camp, and youth staff and volunteers
- Maintain and administer the DHQ children & youth website and social media sites
- Maintain files, records, logs of activities, activity reports as required
- Collect and maintain statistical records of camp ministries, divisional children, and youth events
- Participate as a member of related boards (ex. Camp Management Board), taking minutes as requested
- Interact with community partners and resources to provide services to youth; may include participation on community committees
During September - May regular work schedule is Monday to Friday. There may be a requirement for occasional work during evenings/weekend. Flexibility in work hours and willingness to adjust to meet the work demands is a requirement of the job.
During the summer months (June - August) will reside and work on-site at the Pine Lake Camp (Pine Lake County, AB) as Camp Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a university program in a relevant specialized area consisting of four academic years in related field of study (i.e., Children/Youth work, ministry, social services).
- Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willing to obtain and maintain current certification
- An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience leading volunteers and working with children and youth programming.
- Understanding of the children and youth, and associated needs.
- Respect for and understanding of The Salvation Army its mission, culture, and values
- Experience in children and youth program creation and implementation an asset
- Working knowledge of Camp Brain is an asset

- Possess strong interpersonal and conflict management skills, including the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Effectively and efficiently manages relationships, expectations, and concerns, in a professional and courteous manner, and develops and leverages professional knowledge and working relationships for the benefit of the organization
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate a clear vision for child and youth ministry
- Possess a passion for the spiritual development and wellbeing of young people
- Possess strong computer, Office 365, and social media skills
