Main Purpose & Function


RayCam Co-operative Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Program Assistant Ill to assist the Childcare and Family Programmer in the coordination and participation of educational and support activities and resources for families living in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, with a focus on Out of School Care.

This is an auxiliary position, expected to start in April 2024.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibility of this position includes:

  • Collaboratively working with RayCam childcare and youth programs within the centre and actively leading out of school care activities, with emphasis on supporting marginalized families, increasing caregivers' capacity and supporting child and caregiver bond.
  • Ensuring the cross cultural nature of the community is represented in licensed childcare Following established Centre procedures and protocols to ensure safety of program participants and staff; Building and fostering positive and healthy relationships with staff, children and families;
  • Liaising and networking with a variety of social service agencies and makes referrals to appropriate agencies;
  • Assessing that program design meets the needs of the community members and making changes accordingly
  • Completing miscellaneous clerical work related to licensed childcare, in addition to other related work as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of an approved diploma course in recreation, social service, child and youth care and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Education in recreation, social service, family support plus 2 years' experience working in a family resource or community centre setting in at least 2 agencies would be preferred.
  • Previous experience planning, delivering and leading out of school care programs
  • A current first aid Level 1 Certificate is required. A Class 5 Driver's License is required. Class 4 driver's license is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of behaviours, needs and interests of children between infant to 12 years of age.
  • Good understanding of the value of creating and supporting community capacity building models and ability to facilitate parents to take leadership roles.
  • Knowledge and ability of group dynamics and leadership as related to families and to effectively monitor activities and behaviours of participants, lead groups and provide basic instructions in various activities.


The City's COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.

However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
