The Burnside Group of Companies is currently seeking a
Field Inspector with
2 to 5 years of inspection experience to join our Field Services team who is interested in bringing clean drinking water and proper wastewater disposal to Indigenous communities and municipalities.

_We are also interested in recent graduates with similar work experience_.


This position will be based out of
one of our Ontario offices with Orangeville (preferred Ontario location) as a home office location or our Winnipeg, Manitoba office with the expectation that you will be on a construction project site(s) most of the time.



The Role


As a member of our Field Services Team, you will be involved in a variety of infrastructure projects including water systems (low lift stations, treatment plants/pumphouses, reservoirs, distribution systems), wastewater systems (gravity/lower pressure collection systems, pumping stations, treatment plants, outfalls), road construction, waste transfer stations, etc.

under the direction of our Senior Team members.


The individual would be responsible for daily coordination of assigned projects, including the possibility of either periodic or resident inspection to determine if the project is progressing in General Conformance with the drawings and specifications.

You will be required to liaise between the owner, client, contractor and all other project stakeholders.

This role will potentially include working primarily on projects for Indigenous communities for the first few years, as well as potentially on municipal and private client projects depending on our corporate workload.


Duties may include:


  • Conducting onsite review and coordinating work with the owner/client and contractor;
  • Review of construction progress for general conformance with approved drawings and specifications for various project types;
  • Liaising with governing authorities and thirdparty agencies as required in support of the contract;
  • Preparing and issuing site inspection reports;
  • Organizing and taking minutes at project stake holder / site meetings and producing meeting minutes;
  • Reviewing monthly contractor progress claims;
  • Reviewing and commenting on constructability aspects of design drawings;
  • Assisting with preparation of tender and contract documents in support of design drawings;
  • Recording/Reviewing project as built information;
  • Assisting with contract administration duties including shop drawing review and preparing initial responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Site Instructions, etc.; and
  • Other duties as required


The individual must be available to work
some evenings and weekends, as may be required to facilitate the inspection and administration of their assigned projects.


A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle are mandatory to commute to project locations.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Ideally, 2-5 years of inspection as well as some related construction administration experience;
  • Diploma in a related discipline such as Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc. is an asset;
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office 365;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks;
  • An understanding of office dynamics and exceptional interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to manage time to complete multiple tasks; and
  • The ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including contractors, affected public / community members, and client/municipal staff.
