Job Overview

A premium farming facility located in the Shelburne area (50 minutes north of Brampton on Hwy 10) is seeking a skilled and motivated Plant Scientist to join our team. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will work closely with the Cultivation team to produce top-tier products that rank among the best in the country. The Plant Scientist will lead, mentor, and support the team through all stages of plant growth and development, while collaborating closely with the QAP to ensure quality and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and analyze agronomic trials to evaluate and improve crop yield and quality.
  • Support R&D initiatives including pheno-hunting and trait identification.
  • Assess farmland conditions, including soil health, pest pressures, environmental challenges, and seasonal constraints.
  • Identify and classify pests (insect, microbial, viral) and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee irrigation and fertilization programs to optimize plant health and productivity.
  • Plan and evaluate trials from seed through post-harvest, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Research, identify, and catalogue novel strain characteristics.
  • Coordinate with staff to organize, monitor, and document trial activities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure trials generate meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Analyze data to guide operational decisions, including propagation timing, media selection, transplant schedules, spacing, lighting, fertigation, pest management, harvest timing, and storage practices.
  • Support harvest operations and post-harvest processes, including product preparation for sale and Health Canada testing.
  • Manage inventory control for plants and dried products.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and ensure compliance with all government regulations.

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Botany, Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
