Harmony Community Food Centre (CFC), a program of South Riverdale Community Health Centre, in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada, is a welcoming place where people come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food.


The Health Promoter - Community Food Centre supports SRCHC in the implementation and ongoing operations of a Community Food Centre at 2 Gower Street.

This position will design, develop and implement food education and promotion programs as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

This position is expected to work onsite.


Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop implement and promote the activities and initiatives associated with the Community Food Centre within a CHC
  • Liaise with Community Food Centres Canada to ensure SRCHC's Community Food Centre aligns with CFC's system protocols, procedures and outcomes
  • Network and work collaboratively with community groups to strengthen and expand health promotion programming related to food access and security
  • Coordinate activities to increase the accessibility of health information and services related to food access and security
  • Plan and implement community kitchen programs for targeted participant groups
  • Engage in community outreach to participants and potential partners
  • Oversee and manage online presence utilizing digital social media platforms
  • Facilitate groups, building a safe and inclusive space for participants
  • Develop programs to build and promote food access and security e.g. Mind Your Food program for youth, community kitchen, community dining, food preparation, etc.
  • Measure and evaluate program impact by means of data collection, report writing and collection of social analytics
  • Lead fundraising activities for CFC in alignment with SRCHC's fundraising guidelines
  • Responsible for grant writing and annual program reporting for Harmony CFC
  • Identify, recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Integrate a community development approach, incorporating other activities and opportunities as appropriate
  • Lead an internal program advisory group to develop opportunities for crossorganizational programming
  • Identify, with community members, CFC related education needs and plans, develops, implements and evaluates CFC education programming using various formats such as community events, group programming, use of media and presentations to large groups
  • Disseminate accessible health education materials, developed with community members
  • Collaborate within own team and other teams across the organization to identify and provide health education to target groups
  • Advocate on behalf of priority population groups and individual community members for access to healthy food within context of CFC model
  • Collaborate and build partnerships around issues of concern to effect change
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to generate resources for SRCHC's CFC
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Postgraduate degree from a recognized university in health, social science, adult education, or a related discipline, or a combination of undergraduate degree and significant experience
  • 35 years health promotion/education experience in a communitybased organization
  • Experience and knowledge of health promotion and education, community organizing techniques, program design, implementation and evaluation
  • Experience in community outreach and digital media platforms
  • Experience in community education, engagement and communications
  • Experience fundraising and building partnerships for inkind support
  • Experience grant writing
  • Experience evaluating and reporting on program outcomes
  • Excellent group facilitation skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience preparing healthy meals; knowledge of food security and nutrition issues
  • Demonstrated ability to move people from knowledge to action; ability to inspire, teach and empower community members to engage in positive change
