What we are looking for:


The Clinical Leader is a Health Professional who, in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager, is responsible and accountable for demonstrating competent leadership and patient centered care.

The Clinical Leader is accountable for the day-to-day clinical coordination of nursing and non-nursing activities through facilitation and system coordination activities, reporting to the Patient Care Manager.

Your well-developed leadership and critical thinking skills, coupled with an outcomes-focused approach, will enable you to successfully lead and coordinate care within our services.

You will be a self-directed health care professional and will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment dedicated to the delivery of high quality, patient focused interdisciplinary care.


What you will achieve with us:
The Clinical Lead is accountable for performing duties in a manner that demonstrates commitment to developing a culture of quality, patient and staff safety through accountability, respect, excellence, reliability, trust and teamwork and by:

  • Acting as the "face of the unit" with all stakeholders.
  • Providing staff supervision and unit scheduling as required.
  • Actively building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring participation in patient and staff safety, including staff training, skills drills, risk reviews, safety checks, etc.
  • Promoting a learning environment.
  • Participating in continuing education programs as required.
  • Prioritizing and delegating patient care, including regular patient rounding.
  • Problem solving with patients at the center of the decision making.
  • Collaborating with Patient Care Manager/Director/Professional Practice Leaders on a regular basis regarding critical issues and operational needs.
  • Prioritizing patient access and flow within and between departments.
  • Coordinating / facilitating of Emergency Codes.
  • Completing project work and policy work as required.
  • Promoting and supporting MSH strategic and operational objectives.
  • Demonstrating evidence of quality improvement leadership.

Supervisory Accountabilities:

  • Provides functional supervision.
  • Exhibits professionalism at all times.
  • Clearly assigns responsibilities for tasks and decisions to others taking into account possibilities for change.
  • Ensures that staff has clear direction, tools, resources and authority to achieve their goals and deliver the care they need to.
  • Holds others accountable for care delivery standards and provides ongoing mentoring, coaching and giving feedback to staff. Provides technical and procedure guidance, as required.
  • Builds rapport and relates well to people/patients/customers at all levels, managing conflict and resolving difficult situations.
  • Consistent focus on quality of care and patient safety.
  • Identifies and analyzes problems using systematic and logical methods to formulate sound decisions.
  • Appropriately incorporates inputs from others to establish effective results.
  • Supports the development, implementation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors process, progress and results against agreed deadlines and milestones.
  • Understands and conveys the financial impacts of patient care decisions.
  • Works as part of a leadership triad with PPLs, Managers, and others as required.
  • Participates in and/or provides input to staff evaluations.
  • Provides support in, but not limited to the following areas: budget accountability, staff scheduling and conflict mediation_._

What you bring to the role:

  • Minimum 3 years practical, related and current (within 2 years) surgical inpatient experience.
  • Completion of all relevant requirements, including certification requirements.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills required, degree an asset
  • Patient and family focused.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in stressful, complex environments, manage critical events and exhibit professionalism and strong decision making skills.
