North Shore Crisis Services Society is looking for a Casual Women's Transition House Worker at SAGE House.


There is no set schedule:
this is an On-Call position.


NSCSS provides supports and services for women and their children fleeing abuse, and SAGE House is one of our programs.

SAGE House is a big busy residential program and the Transition House Worker does a variety of tasks - from emotional support and crisis intervention to occasional meal planning and grocery pick up.

We are looking for an energetic person who has a good understanding of the dynamics of abuse, residential experience, a strong feminist analysis and the ability to make good decisions on-the-fly

The Transition House Worker provides advocacy, one to one support, group facilitation, crisis intervention, assessment, intake and discharge services. The clients are for women and children fleeing violence who are living temporarily in SAGE Transition House. Casual staff must have availability for some days, evenings, overnights and weekend shifts.

A driver's license is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in a related Human/Social Service field
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Two years recent related experience
  • Knowledge of family violence, violence against women and children, community resources.
  • Current BC driver's license required
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
  • Have a commitment to strength based, empowerment, trauma informed and client
- centred approaches to working with women and children

  • Able to work with a high degree of compassion, understanding and sensitivity
  • Able to work and empathize with women who have experienced abuse, violence, poverty, mental health challenges and/ or addictions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues which affect women and children, with a demonstrated awareness of specific issues facing aboriginal women, women of colour, ageing women and women with disabilities
  • Able to provide crisis intervention, assessment and lay counseling skills in a nonjudgmental, clientcentered approach
  • Good conflict resolution skills
  • Able to take direction and work effectively as part of a team
  • Able to be flexible and creative in a stressful and changing environment
  • Able to maintain personal and professional boundaries
  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations within the program
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Ability to speak Farsi is an asset

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Clients are women and children in crisis who are fleeing from violence and abuse. There can be personal risk in the day-to-day work. The program provides service for women and children from diverse cultures, backgrounds and ages, and 2SLGBTQ+ women. The program accepts pets and it operates 24/7. The ability to function under pressure is essential.

This position requires a criminal record search by the police and an authorization for criminal record check under the Criminal Records Act of B.C.

This position requires Union membership.
