Job Number:49721**Partners have long played a role in the development, delivery and animation of recreation spaces and amenities in Edmonton. The City of Edmonton recognizes that it cannot effectively meet City objectives alone, and partnerships are critical to achieve priorities and build an active and healthy city.


Working within the Partnership and Event Strategy Section as part of the Community and Recreation Facilities Branch, the role of the Sport Partner Liaison is to attract, develop and steward partnership opportunities in the area of sport and recreation.

The Sport Partner Liaison brokers and manages partner agreements and provides ongoing strategic support for complex partner initiatives that may include lease/contract agreements, management agreements, contracted operation of spaces, operation of entire facilities, or delivery of programs and services.

They seek and develop strategic partner opportunities that lead to enhanced delivery of sport and recreation opportunities for Edmontonians.


The Partnership and Event Strategy Section is the lead for implementation of the Live Active strategy, which is the key strategic document and leading practice for the delivery of active living, active recreation, and sport opportunities in Edmonton.

The Section, in partnership with Explore Edmonton, is also responsible for implementing the long term Major Event Strategy.

The Sport Partner Liaison will be required to support these initiatives through innovation and collaboration with sport partners and internal staff where appropriate.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will use your expertise in the following areas:


_ Strategic Support for Partnerships in Sport and Recreation:_

  • Explore and encourage opportunities for new and existing facility operators to collaborate with the City of Edmonton in the provision of citywide sport and recreation opportunities, including capital development/redevelopment of new and existing facilities
  • Follow the Community Led Construction Guide to provide support and guidance to partners through all phases on capital projects
  • Act as the lead contact with prospective partners by assisting with project proposals, strategic alignment, business case development, and review and operational planning
  • Assess business cases, return on investment, cost benefit, organizational capacity and viability of the partner to deliver their negotiated responsibilities, and ensure the longterm operational sustainability of the project or program
  • Support Cityled Recreation Facility and Open Space projects involving sport and active recreation partners as required, including support with needs assessment tools, public involvement plans and operational plans

_Agreements:
_


  • Develop, negotiate, monitor, administer and evaluate a variety of complex agreements such as memorandum of understanding, lease, license, funding, management, operating, and professional service agreements with Citywide sport and active recreation organizations and partner facility operators
  • Ensure that agreements entered into by the City consider the operational viability and sustainability of the partner facility and that programs or services are in the interest of both the partner and the City

_Capacity Building:
_


  • Provide support for partner and/or City led collaborative projects and initiatives; including the strategic planning related to meeting and enhancing the sport and active recreation needs of Edmontonians
  • Provide consultation, advice and guidance to existing and emerging citywide sport and partner facility operators, ensuring ongoing communication with stakeholders by planning and developing workshops, resources and tools that support innovative and complex collaboration and shared opportunities
  • Assist partner organizations by interpreting and explaining relevant City of Edmonton policies, procedures and development plans and strategies
  • Provide guidance to community sport and recreation facility partners to identify appropriate funding sources for their projects and partnership opportunities
  • Liaise with other levels of government and external organizations

_Strategic Planning and Implementation:
_


  • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate citywide Citizens Services and Corporate Strategies and Initiatives related to sport and active recreation
  • Responsible for the implementation of citywide strategies relevant to sport and recreation including the City Plan, Live Active, the Approach and various parks and river valley master plans
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, Business Administration or a related discipline
  • 7 years of professional exper
