Summary of Functions
The Environmental Technician, under the supervision of the Manager of Water Resources, is primarily responsible for assisting with the development of _Conservation Authorities Act_ deliverables related to asset management, infrastructure operation, ice management, and resource management.
The Environmental Technician will also engage in fieldwork as needed, to assist staff in the monitoring and maintenance of SVCA's capital infrastructure, which includes flood control dykes, dams, slope stability projects, and erosion control projects.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary degree or diploma in environmental sciences, water resources, civil/engineering or a related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Very strong attention to detail
- Must have valid class 'G' Ontario Driver's license
- Must be comfortable working outdoors, around watercourses
- Must be knowledgeable in health, safety and environmental standards
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Manager of Water Resources with the development of the following plans and strategies: Ice Management Plan, Natural Hazard Infrastructure Operational
- Management Plan, Natural Hazard Infrastructure Asset Management Plan, andWatershedBased Resource Management Strategy
- Assist with data entry, scanning, and document management within the Water
- Resources department
- Participate in field work as needed, assisting in the monitoring and maintenance of SVCA's capital infrastructure
- Work safely in compliance with the _Occupational Health and Safety Act_ and all SVCA Health and Safety policies
- Other duties as assigned appropriate to the responsibilities of the position
Work Environment and Conditions
All successful applicants must possess their own Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, be able to work outdoors and in an office environment.
Outdoor fieldwork may require physical effort (e.g. navigating uneven terrain, carrying equipment, and working in all weather conditions).Training
SVCA offers comprehensive health and safety training including WHIMIS, First Aid, and Health and Safety Training.
Location
SVCA's Administrative Office at 1078 Bruce Road 12, Formosa, ON.
Work Period
- March 4, 2024 to December 20, 202 37.5 hours per week
Wages & Benefits
- $59,459 per annum, pro-rated for the duration of the contract
- 4% vacation pay
