Anawim is a not profit in Victoria BC that seeks to empower people that are facing daunting challenges and barriers in their lives


Anawim provides two programs:

A drop in program with the purpose of creating a home-like environment for people to pursue self growth and meet their immediate needs in a comfortable environment, as well as a residential program for people to live at Anawim.

While staying at Anawim, coordinators work with residents to identify and change areas of concern in their lives such as poverty and substance use.


The House Coordinators work within a small team to maintain a safe and sober environment, run services for the drop in program such as meals, laundry, and showers.

House Coordinators also work one to one with members of the men's residential program to help them achieve personal growth.

'''Responsibilities'''

  • Opens and closes Anawim house, including checking morning chores have been completed by residents prior to open. At closure, ensures the house is in a suitable state for staff to leave (locking all doors and ensuring service spaces used by the drop program meet end of day cleanliness and sanitization standards).
  • Maintains a sign in sheet of guests using services throughout opening hours.
  • Accepts and sorts donations, including carrying grocery boxes to storage areas when necessary.
  • Cleans and sanitizes drop in program showers after use of guests.
  • Helps resident on shift prepare the day's community lunch if needed.
  • Meets weekly with one to three residents as assigned by management. Connects with these residents to ensure the resident is still pursuing their program plans, and that other conditions of their residency are being met.
  • Attends a Wednesday morning house meeting with staff and residents, as well as a staff meeting to discuss ways to improve the residential and dropin programs.
  • Documents meeting reports and incident reports as well as manages digital and physical files of guests and residents.
  • Gives tours and interviews to potential residency applicants.
  • Supports volunteers as needed, including walking around the house to ensure volunteer programming is running smoothly (this involves several flights of stairs).
  • Starts and stops house and guest laundry as needed.
  • Assists management and other team members with program related disciplinary decisions, including banning drop ins and possible evictions of residents.
  • Administers urinary drug tests to residents as needed (roughly once a month).
  • Assists management and other team members with program related success stories, including helping successful residents transition out of the program.
  • Records hours worked and maintains a consistent yet occasionally flexible schedule.
  • Important: all applicants must be able to maintain a sense of selfwellness, and selfawareness throughout challenging conversations, including when working with frustrated individuals.
