The Town of Qualicum Beach's Operations Department is in search of a dynamic and highly motivated individual for the regular full-time position of Building and Facilities Coordinator.

The Operations Department manages Town parks, trails, buildings, and 62 facilities in our community, and provides a variety of services to our residents.


Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, the Building and Facilities Coordinator is primarily responsible for the maintenance and operations of the buildings and facilities owned by the Town of Qualicum Beach including but not limited to: Civic Center, Community Hall, Town Hall and Airport.

The incumbent also works with the Director of Infrastructure Services to plan and organize facility operations including recommendations for procurement, maintenance, asset preservation, special projects, safe work practices and crew development through regulations and sustainable best practices.


Duties include:


  • Managing a program that includes the full life cycle of buildings and facilities assets, including: Planning, Implementation, Operations / Maintenance and Disposal;
  • Providing daytoday direction to your assigned crew;
  • Updating Director of Infrastructure Services on progress, problemsolving issues that arise, and attending meetings as scheduled;
  • Providing direction for developing policy statements and providing technical insight at technical team meetings;
  • Reviewing designs and/or tender documents;
  • Preparing technical reports, presentations, letters, and memos;
  • Monitoring health and safety practices in the workplace;
  • Completing required administrative duties including absence requests, daily timesheets, task
- tracking, invoices, answering internal and external inquiries, and creating reports as required.

  • Planning the work schedule for the unit on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis in cooperation with the Director of Infrastructure Services, and in accordance with the Strategic Plan;
  • Working closely with the Parks Foreperson on coordination and scheduling of staff, when necessary;
  • Assisting with Town special events and filming requests as required;
  • Assisting other departments, from time to time, to meet service levels.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • A building science technology certificate or diploma;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience managing assets such as buildings and facilities;
  • Ability to supervise, plan, prioritize and assign work of assigned project teams with a minimum of five (5) years' directly related experience, preferably within a unionized environment;
  • Strong understanding of risk management;
  • Knowledge of Preventative Maintenance and Reliability-Centered Maintenance;
  • Knowledge of the principles of project management;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Familiarity with Emergency Management principles around preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery on how it relates to facility management;
  • Strong understating of the concept of building assessments and knowledge of regulations and standards governing structures in British Columbia;
  • Advanced organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work;
  • Excellent computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite and data management;
  • Class 5 driver's license;
  • Facility Management Professional (FMP), Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate and/or designation would be a definite asset;
  • A_n equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge may be considered if deemed acceptable by the Employer._
The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay will be $41.89/hour. Successful applicants will be expected to work 40 hours/week, as outlined in the current Collective Agreement.
