Position Summary:Reporting directly to the Child Care Coordinator, Children's Services, and indirectly to the Manager, Children's Services and the Director, Community and Social Services, the Program Consultant will be responsible for supporting staff working in licensed child care programs and EarlyON Child and Family Centres, on matters of quality in the Child Care and Early Years System.

This position will help identify system needs that may be addressed through training, resources and education


Qualifications:


  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education is required; preference will be given to Registered ECE in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Two years' experience working in the children's services sector with families and/or caregivers and children, with a minimum of one year developing and delivering training/presentations to adults;
  • Thorough knowledge of programming and curriculum development for young children, adult education principles and family support/resource;
  • Demonstrated experience working in licensed child care as well as knowledge/understanding of the licensed child care system;
  • Proven skill in community development and working in collaboration with others;
  • Demonstrated consultative skills demanding detailed program knowledge and expertise, creativity and ingenuity.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, effective problem solving and facilitation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, project management and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet competing demands and determine priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and within a teamdelivered organizational model;
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office technologies including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of participants and stakeholders of the licensed child care and early years system;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends depending upon the needs of the community;
  • Must be willing to travel to locations within the geographic area of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville;
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Perform the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Perform the responsibilities of the position consistent with the operational policies of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
  • Develop and implement training and educational opportunities for professionals, including the facilitation of training sessions that will support them in their role in the child care and early year's system.
  • Provide support to child care and early years system professionals in the implementation of the principles of How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years and any other quality standards or initiatives introduced by the Ministry of Education and/or the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
  • Support program quality improvement efforts through regular site visits and discussions with staff.
  • Identify system strengths, make recommendations on how to improve quality, and support programs to implement recommendations.
  • Ensure ongoing work with the child care and early year's system staff, sector stakeholders and fellow staff is conducted in a manner that is respectful, empowering and demonstrates a strong customer service philosophy.
  • Maintain knowledge of new resources and best practices as relates to assessing and measuring quality in the child care and early years system. Maintain knowledge of information pertinent to the field of early child development, early learning and family support.
  • Support child care programs in their retention and recruitment efforts by participating in promotion activities at local job fairs and community colleges as needed.
  • Act as a resource to child care and early years programs on matters of program quality, including but not limited to the daytoday provision of quality programming and care, early child development, and How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years.
  • Recommend program and policy change to improve the child care and early year's system management.
  • Participate in committees, working groups and team meetings as required and approved by Manager, Children's Services.
  • Maintain a high level of computer proficiency for Microsoft Office.
