CAWES employees are members of CUPE Local 417.

This full-time position is 10:00am to 6:30pm, Wednesday to Sunday.


Specific Key Responsibility Areas:


Food Services Provision:


  • Preparation of meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide
  • Maintain clean and tidy kitchen appliances, fridges, freezers, stove, cupboards etc.
  • Wash dishes and maintain clean and tidy workspaces.
  • Assist in keeping the dining area clean.
  • Ensure proper storage of all dry goods, food staples and household/cleaning supplies
  • Receive and put away groceries and supplies
  • Mandatory compliance to health and safety regulations
  • Ensure availability of culturally specific, vegan, glutenfree, diabetic and other specialty diet foods are available.

Administrative Responsibilities:


  • Update kitchen daily, weekly, and monthly checklists

Work Scheduling:


  • Facilitates approval from Business Manager for holiday, sick time, vacation, overtime use.
  • Work schedule as per employment contract

Client Support:


  • Communicate with clients and coworkers to determine if food allergies are present with clients and ensure that there is an alternative meal for that client.
  • Communicate with staff (crisis workers and/or management) the identified and/or perceived needs of residents

Communication and Teamwork:


  • Communicate with coworkers in a professional manner
  • Provide support and orientation to new staff and volunteers
  • Ability to remain calm during difficult situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills ability to work as part of a team
  • Maintaining confidentiality is mandatory.

Qualifications:


  • Food Handling Certificate is essential
  • Knowledge of food storage and menu planning
  • Knowledge of Canada Food Guide is essential
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards governing a 'social care' facility is an asset
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required for employment
