Job Summary:
The Library & Archives unit is looking for a dynamic individual who, under the leadership of the Archivist - Private Fonds, will arrange and describe National Gallery of Canada archival fonds.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Archives or Library studies and a degree in art history
- in-depth knowledge of the library and archive cataloguing standards including: RAD (Rules for Archival Description), AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules), and MARC (Machine Readable Cataloguing)
- minimum of 2 years experience using RAD to arrange and describe archival records preferred
- experience using Library or Archives systems (such as Innovative Millenium) and database software such as FileMaker Pro to catalogue archival records
- ability to work in a web based environment and experience using to make finding aids available on the web
- effective research, organizational, writing and communication skills
- able to lift and move objects/materials up to 20 kg
- able to work extended periods on a computer
- an understanding of photographic and audio-visual processes, both historic and current, in order to provide an accurate description of these processes when describing the archival holdings
- The knowledge of both English and French is preferred
Condition of Employment:
