We are looking for a
Transportation Safety Manager at our Head Office located in Sherwood Park. This position works Monday to Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM.

The Transportation Safety Manager reports directly to the Safety and Compliance Manager, and will be responsible for ensuring the safety culture of Caron Transportation Systems' is maintained.

This role provides day-to-day guidance and support, and is responsible for training employees in safety management best practices, assisting with hazard identification and the development of safe work procedures, identifying, developing, and delivering safety training supplements.


Job Duties:

  • Implement safety practices, policies and plans of the company.
  • Provide necessary training, leadership, organization and control to meet the company's goal of zero accidents.
  • Accept full authority to take any necessary action to maintain overall safe practices and procedures, including the authority to cease an unsafe operating procedure.
  • Implement information flow and data publications to ensure each level of management is properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies.
  • Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by Caron Transportation Systems comply with safety and fire regulations and any other Provincial or Federal regulations.
  • Observe equipment and property conditions and report discrepancies to appropriate managers.
  • Monitor and measure effectiveness of all safety programs and documentation required as part of compliance with National Safety Code.
  • Develop manuals, policies, and procedures for training and safe work practices to be implemented.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations as necessary to assist with liability determination and causation, including resolution of open claims.
  • File requests for accident evaluations, ensuring unpreventable accidents are recorded as such wherever applicable.
  • Observe all company rules, policies and procedures with regards to quality control Occupational Health and Safety, etc.
  • Coordinate the Emergency Response Team and ensure they are trained and ready to respond to any accident.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance in alignment with:


  • National Safety Code

  • Driver files/Hours of Service


  • Canada Labour Code

  • Fall protection/Working Alone


  • OH&S

  • Conduct Meetings/Audits/Hazard Assessments
  • Conduct and coordinate all safety related training
  • Safety manual training during orientation, schedule safety related training when due.
  • Ensure consistent Driver Training at all levels
  • Train all Driver trainers to the same level of competency.
  • Respond as necessary to all accidents and incidents.
  • Report all spills immediately and ensure all necessary reports are sent to the proper Authority.
  • Monitor terminal involvement in random pretrips.
  • Provide information to auditors for WCB, Alberta Infrastructure/DOT, Customer, and QRC audits.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with the Caron QMS and production standards required by the Company and the industry.
  • 510 years directly related transportation industry experience.
  • Certificate, diploma or degree in Safety or Management program.
  • CRSP and/or CTSP Designation an asset.
  • Valid drivers' license, class 1 is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with others.
  • Sound analytical thinking, problem solving, planning, prioritization, decision making and execution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, using MS Office Suite; with ability to produce timely and highquality reports and documentation.
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to work under mínimal supervision.
  • Able to work individually and as a team member.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately in a timely manner.
  • Displays initiative, creativity, and innovation in achieving results.
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
