    Description

    Reporting to a Foreman, a Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a loader. This position operates loaders equipped with a front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop, which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.

    Equipment Operation:

  • Operate a loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to the required work area.
  • Operate loader controls to lower and tilt buckets and drive forward to force buckets into bulk material; move levers to raise and tilt buckets when filled; or dump material.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Operate a loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one's surroundings.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure the smooth operation of a loader.
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of a loader.
  • Operate other heavy equipment; other construction related duties as required.
  • Technical Knowledge:

  • Possess knowledge of loaders and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

    Qualifications & Experience

  • High school or equivalent; with experience in related construction activities.
  • Minimum 2–5 years' experience in road construction as well as water and sewer experience.
  • 2–3 years' experience operating a loader is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License; clean Driver Abstract.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Valid Ground Disturbance certificate.
